How do i know what languages my ps3 can play?

ok so ive been looking for a particular video game but its just impossible to find in my city, so now i've started looking on ebay. the problem now is this, the game im looking for is indeed on ebay but its in austraila or europe or japan, i have yet to see a north american copy of it on ebay. my problem is this, i know that american consoles only play games that are region coded to... well america, the thing is, would my console be able to play games that are from europe or austrailia? seeing as how both these countries video games probably are in english (though i am making assumptions)
